20 FREE Boho & Free-Spirit Crochet Patterns
It’s been a little while since I’ve done a crochet pattern round-up and a few of you have also expressed that you wanted to see more free crochet patterns. So in this video I have 20 Boho and Free-Spirit Crochet Patterns here for you all and they are all free.
I’ll be breaking them into five different categories: Sweaters, Dresses, Tops & Skirts, Home Decor and Accessories. And as always you can check out each exact link over on my blog as well which is linked in the description box below. Alright let’s get into it!
Sweaters:
Patchwork Sweater by TL Yarn Crafts, see the pattern here.
First is the Patchwork Cardi by TL Yarn Crafts. She designed it using the seed stitch which is also known as the moss stitch. There is one size which is 39 inches long by 34 inches wide after blocking, but there is a note that due to the weight of the garment it could be longer in length. Special stitches are the foundation single crochet, and you do need to be comfortable with basic stitches as well as working on the wrong side of the garment. There is a really helpful chart to assemble it as well, which is really helpful if you are a visual learner like me.
You could also make this Mesh Sweater by me. I have the full tutorial here on my channel and it is a very simple and easy make. I share tips on how to make it made to measure and fit you perfectly, and it is one of my favorite sweaters that I wear all the time. I also share how to add buttons and make button holes as well, and also how you can make it longer if you don’t want a cropped fit.
Square Deal Sweater by Tammy Hildebrand, see the pattern here.
I also loved this Square Deal Sweater by Tammy Hildebrand. This one is more intermediate level and the body of the sweater is worked in two pieces, and front square is worked in joined rounds, changing color every other round. Then after the front square is complete the top of the front is worked across one short edge up to the neck and shoulders and the back is worked same as the front. The sleeves are then worked directly onto the armholes down to the wrist edge. This one is a written pattern with lots of details but you do need to be comfortable with assembling it, but I would say this could be a great pattern to level-up your skills if you are a confident beginner.

The next pattern is the a Mesh Sweater Top by Kiks and Jack Crochet. For the construction you create the back and front panel, then move to the sleeve panels and then seam together the front and back panel to finish it off. This one is very size inclusive with sizes XS to 5XL, and only requires basic stitches to make so it is more beginner friendly. This one is designed to have a loose and airy feel to it with no ribbing and it is the perfect layering piece even in warmer weather.
V-Neck Sweater by Han Jan Crochet, see the pattern here.
The V-Neck Sweater by HanJan is also a great make. This is designed to be a v-neck or straight neck, and the straight neck will use slightly more yarn. The sizes with this one are XS to 5XL , and there are a lot of options to customizer the length of the body, cuff and sleeves. The special stitches used here are working into the front loop and back loop only and then the foundation half double crochet. And this pattern on their blog which is available once you subscribe as a member on their site which is free.
Dresses:
First is the Better World Dress by Kasia Osmolska. This one is a bit more advanced level as the special stitches are the front post single crochet, 4 half double crochet puff, crossed double crochet with chain stitch, popcorn stitch, 4 double crochet popcorn stitch, back and front post double and treble crochet, and front post treble crochet with 4 and 6 stitches together as well as treble and double 5 together stitches, so there are quite a few special stitches here to know. You start with the yoke worked in the round then the body and collar, then the sleeves, and this one has pictures as well as charts as well.
There are sizes Large, medium and small and the creator does ask that if you share a picture of your finished dress on social media to choose a cause that is close to your heart, donate any amount of money to that cause (it could even be a dollar) and then write under the picture of the finished dress why you chose that cause and why it is important to you. And I thought that was such a lovely way to really be about trying to actively make the world a better place which is the name of this dress.

Maxi Dress by Han Jan Crochet, see the pattern here.
Another great project is the Maxi dress by Han Jan Crochet. This one has sizes XS to 5XL and the fact that it’s made with comfy sport yarn gives it a really lovely drape and delicate feel. To create it you start with two lace panels for the sleeves and top of the dress. Then using the join as you go method you add the under bust band and join the two rectangles to form the shape of the top.
Once the top is complete begin working the front of the skirt in the same lace stitch, Then once complete work a matching back for the skirt. The sides are then seamed as much or as little as you like to create a nice side split and the neckline and underarms can also be seamed to your choice as well. And this one just uses basic stitches to make and is more intermediate level mainly for the construction.

North Shore Dress by Ann Regis, see the pattern here.
A great piece to make would be this North Shore Dress by Ann Regis. This one is more of a cover-up perfect with Summer around the corner when going to the beach or pool. It would also travel well. This Backless Bow Dress by Pet Pet Crochets is definitely a showstopper. This one is great if you are more visual as it is a video tutorial. It is made to measure with lots of tips on how to adjust it according to how you want it to fit your body and style which is great. I love the bow in the back and the story behind it as well, she wanted a nice romantic dress to wear on a date with her husband so she made this dress.
Rose Dress by Aniela Em, see the pattern here.
Or make the filet crochet Rose Dress by Aniela Em. It’s designed to fit size XS to Small but they do have tips on how to adjust the measurements to fit your size, and this is a really great pattern to make if you want to create a filet crochet wearable. I know making one is definitely on my list, and to make it you start with the front, then make the neckline, and the back, then sewing the panels together, make the straps and finish it up with the lace border.
Ivy Dress by Seratt, see the pattern here.
Another great piece is the Ivy Dress by Seratt. This one is advance beginner level to make and made to measure. It can be made as a mini, midi or maxi dress and with or without a slit. To create you make a body panel, optional slit, add dress elastics if you like and then the strap. And the main pattern is the block stitch which uses chains, single and double crochet, so it’s pretty easy to make. And this one is a video tutorial which is nice if you’re more visual as well.
Tops & Skirts:
Boho Vest by Joan Barnett, see the pattern here.
First is the Boho Vest by Joan Barnett. The vest includes three different motifs: picot trellis, a checkerboard and diagonal shell. Another great pattern is the Basic Top by Craft and Crochet. This one is a video tutorial on their YouTube channel, and uses basic stitches to make so it’s quite beginner friendly. I thought the shape had a nice boho and relaxed feel to it, and this one would be so great to make and use as a wardrobe staple even as it is very versatile, you can dress it up or down in so many ways.
Earthy Girl Skirt by Marion Crochets, see the pattern here.
Or make the Earthy Girl Skirt by Marion Crochets. It uses basic stitches, and is beginner friendly for sure, and it is made to measure so you can make it fit you specifically. It’s also made to measure and she shares exactly how to get your measurements to figure out the stitch counts. You start with the ribbed waist band and work the motif down then she shares how to shape it as you like and add a bobble stitch edging and a drawstring to finish it off.
Home Decor:
Butterfly Pillow by Julia Madill, see the pattern here.
First is the Granny Butterfly Pillow by Julia Madill. It measures 24 inches wide by 20 inches tall, and only requires super bulky yarn and polyfil and basic stitches to make. To make it you start with the wing motif, then the body and finish it off by assembling the wings and joining them to the body. This one is so whimsical and would definitely make a statement on a fun statement chair.
Doily by Rohn Strong, see the pattern here.
Another great make is the Doily by Rohn Strong. Doilies are a great way to add texture and a boho vibe to your space and display on a table or shelf, and it measures 14 inches in diameter. It’s made in the round and would be quite a quick and easy make as well.

Lily Tasseled Plant Hanging by Yarnpsirations, see the pattern here.
I also loved this Lily Tasseled crochet plant hanging by Yarnspirations, and the special stitches used are the linked double crochet and single crochet 2 together, and is made in the round worked in a spiral. I love the fringe and tassels which really gives it that free-spirited vibe and this one is on the Yarnspirations website.
Bag Charms by Yarnspirations, see the pattern here.
First is the Bag Charms by Yarnspirations. They each measure around 3.5 to 6 inches tall and the special stitches are the single crochet two together so there’s a bit of increasing here. There are three patterns: the worm, moth, and beetle, and I love the little details on these charms and there are some helpful charts as well if you like charts.
