25 FREE Spring Granny Square Crochet Patterns

💐 Spring is finally here! The season for tea in the garden or having a picnic lunch with family and friends! What better way to celebrate than with some beautiful crochet flower granny squares that will add a touch of floral charm to your projects!

So in this blog post, I'll be sharing 25 FREE crochet patterns for these delightful granny squares, perfect for beginners and seasoned crocheters alike. Grab your crochet hook and your favorite yarn, and let's dive into the world of springtime crochet together!

Also all of these granny squares are worked from the center out, so it is helpful to be familiar with working in the round for all of these patterns.

 

 

Flower Granny Square by Winding Road Crochet, see the pattern here


The first pattern is this Flower Granny Square by Winding Road Crochet. This one is more intermediate Level. To create it you need to be comfortable with the basic stitches as well as how to dc2tog and make a cluster stitch. This one also has a helpful video tutorial demonstrating all of the stitches. This pattern is free on their blog or as a paid pattern in their Etsy shop.

I love all of the little petals on this one. This one is intermediate level as well, and the special stitches you need to be comfortable with are the Popcorn stitch and cluster stitch which is 3 dc in the same stitch for this pattern. The finished square is about 6 inches or 15 cm.There is a YouTube video tutorial for this pattern as well. 

 

Daisy Granny Square by Adore Crea, see the full pattern here


You could make a daisy granny square like this one by Adore Crea. This one is beginner friendly as it just requires you to know basic stitches like the chain, sl st, double crochet and treble crochet. The artist is using Drops Merino Extra Fine for this project and this one has a YouTube video tutorial for it. So, this one is perfect to whip up if you want a simple and easy granny square to tackle. 

 

Lotus Granny Square by Thoresby Cottage, see the full pattern here


If you want more of a challenge try out the Lotus Granny Square by Thoresby Cottage. This pattern is more intermediate or perfect for the beginner who wants to take their skills to the next level.  The square measures 16 cm or about 6 inches and uses the front post bobble, small picot and medium picot along with basic techniques. The square was inspired by Moroccan design and Spanish tiles, and I really feel this granny square has a beautifully bohemian feel to it. 

 

Daisy Granny Square by Daisy Cottage Designs, see the pattern here


Another piece that would be fun is the Daisy Granny Square by Daisy Cottage Designs. The designer used Paintbox Cotton Aran Yarn for this square and it measures 4 inches or 10 cm. The special stitches used for this square are 3 dc cluster and 4 dc cluster. This pattern also has a lot of helpful pictures to assist with working each round. 

 

African Flower Granny by Lanas y Ovillos in English, see the pattern here

You could make an African flower granny square like this one by Lanas y Ovillos, and this one is beginner friendly. You only need to know how to do the sc, hdc, dc and tr. This one is a YouTube tutorial which is helpful for visual learners and also has a helpful chart if you like reading charts.

 

Flower Granny by B Hooked Crochet, see the pattern here.  

Another great one is the flower granny square by B Hooked Crochet. This design has an amazing 3D effect which gives the design extra texture. The special stitch used for this one is the popcorn stitch which is made by working 5 dc in the same stitch. If you are a beginner who wants to take things to the next level this is a great one, and this one has pictures to help guide you through this pattern on their blog.

 

Shasta Daisy by Cypress Textiles, see the pattern here

The next granny square that is great to make is the Shasta Daisy by Cypress Textiles. I love the more delicate and lacy details with this square and would say that this one is definitely advanced as it uses a lot of special stitches like the 2 dtr-cl, 2tr-cl, 3 and 4 dc-cl. The beg 3 and 4 dc-cl, the beg dc and tr and dtr, picot and puff stitch. This pattern is one of four different granny square patterns that are beautifully designed, so definitely check out all of the pattern on their blog.  
Flower Granny by Lullaby Lodge, see the pattern here

The Flower Granny by Lullaby Lodge is also a great one to make. This one is more beginner friendly as it only requires the dc, tr, sl st, ch and sp techniques to create. And it doesn’t require a magic ring for all of my friends who hate the magic ring out there. There is also a YouTube video tutorial, which is helpful for visual learners.

 

Flora Granny by Simple Crochet Mag, see the pattern here.  

Another fun flower granny to make is this fun colorful flora granny by simple crochet mag. The finished granny is 10 cm or 4 inches and is definitely beginner friendly. There is a free digital written pattern on their website. And this one is in UK Standard terms which is good to be mindful of, and it would be a one is a fun one to play with all of the colors for each row. 

 

Retro Daisy Granny by Adore Crea, see the pattern here

If you are more of a fan of 70s motifs and design you might like creating the vintage daisy granny like this one by Adore Crea. This one is a bit more intermediate because you have to be comfortable with turning over your work and working in layers to give it that 3D effect. But there is a really helpful video tutorial for this one which is great if you are a visual learner and it is really easy to follow along to.

A very classic spring design to make is one like this rose granny by Adore Crea. This one also has a video tutorial that is very easy to follow, and is an intermediate level design to create. Rose motifs are really trendy right now in the fashion world, so this granny square would be super on trend to make a cardigan with. 

 

3D Flower Granny by Blue Star Crochet, see the pattern here

If you would like to make a more 3D flower granny this one by Blue Star Crochet would be lovely. It measures 6 inches or 15 cm and simply requires basic stitches to make it. I like how this one gives me more of a tropical vibe. This square has a written and video tutorial on their blog. 

 

3D Daffodil Granny Square by Secret Yarnery, see the pattern here

Or if you love daffodils you should make this 3D daffodil by Secret Yarnery. This pattern is more intermediate level. This one really screams spring vibes and has a written pattern on their website for purchase or the free visual pattern on YouTube. There is also a left handed and right handed tutorial which is very helpful. 

 

3D Granny by Cosy Rosie UK, see the pattern here

Or here is another very colorful 3D granny square by Cosy Rosie UK. This one is more intermediate and the special stitches you use to make it are the 5 dc bobble, front post and back post, and spike stitches. The finished square is 10 inches or 25 cm. This pattern has a helpful video tutorial and written instructions in their blog post in US and UK Standard. 

 

Tulip Granny Square by Oh My Crochet, see the pattern here

If you love tulips you could make this tulip flower granny square by Oh My Crochet. This one is 9 cm or 3.5 inches and is beginner friendly for sure only using basic stitches. This one is a YouTube video tutorial on their channel. 

 

Sunflower Square by Sarah Maker, see the pattern here

If you love sunflowers, I really love the sunflower square by Sarah Maker. It’s definitely more intermediate, but if you are a beginner and looking to take things to the next level this would be a great one. The only special stitch is the puff stitch and cluster stitch and there are a lot of helpful photos and pictures on their blog for each round with this one. The finished size of the square is 5 inches or 18 cm. 

 

Lace Granny Square by WilMade, see the pattern here

If you want to make a more lace flower square this lace granny square by WilMade would be a great one to make. This square measures about 4 inches or 10 cm and the special stitches it uses are the puff stitch and v stitch. When used together they create the tulip crochet stitch which makes it look like tulips. You can also use different colors for the different rows to make that tulip stitch technique really stand out.

Here is another lacy granny square by Blue Star Crochet. This one measures 9 inches or 23 cm and the special stitches used are the puff stitch, v st, and the basic stitches as well. This one should be blocked to the dimensions and especially with the lacy ones it allows them to really keep their shape and sharp edges.

Maybe you like the primrose and will enjoy this granny square by Samantha Clair Crochet. It is more beginner friendly and uses cluster stitches and basic crochet techniques to make and this one is a YouTube video tutorial, and this one is conveniently explained in both UK and US terms.

If you enjoy pansies you might really enjoy this next one. It’s the pansy flower granny square. This one is beginner friendly as well and is a YouTube video tutorial. It only uses basic stitches to create. I love the lacy border that this one has. It would be a really fun one to use in a garment I think.

 

Iris Granny Square by Made by Gootie, see the pattern here.  

Here is another lacy iris granny square by made by Gootie. This one is defiintiely beginner friendly and is made with worsted weight yarn. It measures 8 inches or 20 cm and uses basic stitches along with the v stitch which is 2 dc ch1 and 2dc in the same stitch. I love how this lacy square is not too dense and doesn’t have too many large holes in the design, and just has a more abstract flower design in it.

Or if you love Dahlias this next one could be nice, it’s by Secret Yarnery and is a YouTube video tutorial on their channel. This one is more intermediate level, and requires basic stitches, working in the flo, picot and increase stitches. I really love how detailed this one is and how much texture there is with this granny square.

 

Four Petal Granny by Day La Hanh, see the pattern here

I love how graphic this design is, it’s the four petal granny by Day La Hanh. And this one is definitely beginner friendly. It uses basic stitches as well as the extended double crochet. I think this one would be so cute for a hat or a bag. This one is a very clear and concise YouTube video tutorial on their channel. 

 

Lacy Granny Square by Kristine's Day, see the pattern here

If you are a fan of lace squares, check out this lacy flower granny by Kristine’s Day. I absolutely love this design, her choice of color here is so lovely, and this design is definitely beginner friendly as it just requires basic stitches. This is a video tutorial on their YouTube channel, and there is a helpful connect as you go method that she shares which is great if you are trying to make a bigger project.
