30 Dark Aesthetic Crochet Patterns (Moody, Gothic & Unique)

It’s been a while since I’ve done a crochet pattern video, so I thought it was about time. Recently in a poll I asked what you would like to see and Dark and Moody patterns were highly requested so I’ve got 30 patterns here for you, and I’ll separate them into four different categories: Accessories, Home Decor, Granny Squares & Doilies, and Clothing. 

These are mostly paid patterns, with a few free patterns in there. And if you want to check out any of the exact links to each pattern, you can see them over on my blog which is linked in the description box below. 

 

 

 

 

 

Accessories: 

Moonwish Wrap by TheCurio Crafts Room, see the pattern here

First is the Moonwish Wrap by The Curio Crafts Room. This crochet shawl pattern can be adjusted to any size but the instructions show how to create one in a size small and large. It has US and UK crochet terms, and it is written in Dutch and English. It is rated as begin beginner friendly, and this a paid pattern on the love crafts website, and I loved the texture in this one as well s how you can add a button or pin to this design as well. 

 

Mothman Bandana by Mythic Mist, see the pattern here

Next is the Mothman Bandana by Mythic Mist. This pattern is one size, and is beginner friendly as well as it one requires knowing basic stitches. It’s written in US terms, and is a paid pattern in their Etsy. I love it in that black, red and gray colorway, but it would also be fun to play with the colors on this one. 

 

Centipede Scarf by Lips Meet Tongue, see the pattern here

I also like this Centipede Scarf by Lips Meet Tongue. It measures 160 cm long by 30 cm wide, and is made using tapestry crochet so you do need to know how to read a grid pattern. So this one is more intermediate level to make, and this is a pay what you want pattern on their Ko-fi, and I love this design and all the details of the legs here on this centipede and think this would be such a fun make. 

 

Devil Bonnet by Om HStudio, see the pattern here.

Another great pattern is the Devil Bonnet by Om Studio. It’s perfect for Halloween, cosplay or even festivals or to gift to someone even, and great for cold weather. It fits adult size 22 to 24 inches, and is beginner friendly to make. This one is a paid pattern in their Etsy, and I love the heart-shaped face opening and big bow design here. 

 

Forgotten Lore Shawl by Fiber and Fox, see the pattern here

This next pattern is the Forgotten Lore Shawl by Fiber and Fox. It’s a paid pattern on revelry and the name is inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven. They crocheted it up with fine merino/silk/cashmere blend so it had a lovely drape and was so light. The pattern includes a lot of photos and individual row and stitch count details, and is more advanced beginner level to make, and I love the dragon wing look design of this one. 

 

 

Gothic Scarf by Nessa's Knots Co, see the pattern here

Or make this bloody scarf by Nessa's Knots Co. This is a beginner friendly paid pattern on their website, and you just need to know how to be able to follow a pixel graph because it uses the tapestry crochet technique to make. You could easily also make it longer or shorter as you like and I just thought this one is very creative and would be a great way to learn to do the tapestry crochet technique if you haven’t tried it already. 


Webmistress Scarf by Michele DuNaier, see the pattern here

This Webmistress Scarf by Michele DuNaier is also a lovely make. It’s a paid pattern on their Ravelry and it’s made in one size which measures 56 inches wide by 28 inches long. You can also make it in a small size as a wall hanging . I thought it looks like a spiderweb, and this one would be a really fun layering piece to make especially for the Fall.  

 

Black Widow by Alexis Sixel, see the pattern here

The Black Widow Motif by Alexis Sixel is also a great make. It’s more intermediate level to make as it uses the mosaic technique to create it, and it does use several special stitches that are detailed as a photo tutorial of those stitches. Here they used it for a table runner, but you can use it to create a shawl, pillow, blankets, apparel and anything else you’d like. And this one is a paid pattern on their Ravelry and a video tutorial on their channel. 

 

Ouija Tote Bag by Dark N TwistyHousewife, see the pattern here

If you’re looking for a more esoteric make you might like this Ouija Tote Bag by Dark N Twistyhousewife. This one is a paid pattern on Ravelry, and comes with a written instructions and a chart. I love the size and shape of this one as well and thought it was a really creative design. 

 

Easy Choker by Little John's Yarn, see the pattern here

I also like this Easy Choker by Little John’s Yarn. It uses basic stitches and is free on her blog and YouTube Channel. It’s perfect for a beginner because it’s simple and doesn’t take too long to make. It’d only take about 15 to 20 minutes to make if you’re familiar with basic stitches, and it would be a really great make with any scrap yarn that you might have lying around as well. 

Deceased Digits Lace Wrister by Kat Brennan, see the pattern here

I also loved the Deceased Digits Lace Wrister by Kat Brennan. This pattern is free on the Yarnspirations website. It blends elegance and edge makes chic crochet wristers and Patons Grace for that nice delicate look. It would be so fun to style and elevate any outfit really. 



Home Decor:

Luna Moth Curtains by Lips Meet Tongue, see the pattern here

First is the Luna Moth Curtains by Lips Meet Tongue. To create you need to know basic stitches and how to filet crochet. It measures 101 cm by 76 cm and it is intermediate level to create. It’s pay what you want on their Ko-fi and I just thought this design was really unique and would be fun to display and give some character to a window. 

 

Mistress of Elvira Tapestry by Hooked N Worsted, see the pattern here

Next is the Mistress of the Dark Tapestry by Hooked N Worsted. You can unleash your inner goth goddess with this make of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. It is an intermediate level make, as it requires you to be familiar with tapestry crochet and changing colors. It is a paid pattern on their Ravelry and I love how detailed it is to make.

 

Dark Mark Afghan by The Happy Hooker, see the pattern here

You could make the scrappy Harry Potter Dark Mark Afghan by The Happy Hooker. This pattern is free on their Ravelry and is made using the tapestry crochet technique. I love that it was made with scrap yarns so this would be a really great project to use your scraps up with. 

 

Darkness Claims Us Tapestry by Between the Covers, see the pattern here

You could also make the Until the Darkness Claims Us Tapestry Blanket by Between the Covers. The finished blanket measures 50 by 60 inches which is quite large and it uses the tapestry crochet method to create. It includes a graph and written instructions if you prefer to not follow a graph, and it’s a paid pattern on their Ravelry. 

 

Scarab Plant Holder by Dark and Dramatic, see the pattern here. 

Another great project is the Scarab Plant Holder by Dark and Dramatic Crochet. In order to create it, it’s worked in the round on a circular base, and can be customized to fit most plant pots. I love the scarab design and it uses the mosaic crochet technique to make. These would be great to make and use for salsa, jelly jars and old glass candle holders. 

 


Granny Squares & Doilies:

 

Granny Skull Square by Spider Mambo, see the pattern here.

I also love this Granny Square Skull Infinity Square by Spider Mambo. It’s a paid pattern on the Love Crafts website, and you can create it using any weight depending on the size that you’d like your square to be. You only use basic stitches to make it to but it is rated advanced to make. 

 

Royal Dark Star Doily by Trellis Creations, see the pattern here

The Royal Dark Star Doily by Trellis Creations is another great make. It is a paid pattern in their Ravelry shop, it would be great to make and display on a table, and made with sport weight yarn it creates a doily that is 34 cm wide, and I just love this design in that gorgeous midnight blue hue that they made it in.


Skull Granny Squares by Artsy Gremlin, see the pattern here

Or make this Skull Granny Square by Artsy Gremlin. It’s a beginner level make and only uses basic stitches to make. It’s a paid pattern in their Etsy and I love how they used two contrasting colors for this one, and you can use it to make bags, pockets, and all kinds of things, and if you want to see some pattern ideas of what to make definitely check out one of these videos after this one. 

Midnight Moon Square by The Crochet Laboratory, see the pattern here. 

Another good granny square to make is this Midnight Moon by The Crochet Laboratory. This pattern combines Victorian lace and mystical symbolism in a modern gothic granny square design. It’s rated intermediate or advanced beginner level to make, and is a paid pattern in their Etsy. And this one would be really fun to create with afghans, throws, baby blankets, and wearables like cardigans or purses even. 

 

Clothing:

 

Moon Crop Top by Moonlit Shop, see the pattern here.

First is the dark side of the 
Moon Crop Top by Moonlit Shop. This is a paid pattern in their Ravelry, and has steps on how to change the size. I love this one, and if you’re a Pink Floyd fan I think you’ll like this one too, I know a lot of Pink Floyd was played in the house when I was growing up so I liked this one. 

 

Spiderweb Top by Cactus Lady Creation, see the pattern here

Or make this fun Spiderweb Top by me. I have this one as a YouTube video tutorial here on the channel and as a paid written pattern on my website. It’s more intermediate or confident beginner to make, and has sizes XS to 5XL, and uses basic stitches to make it. It has a more oversized fit, and drapes really nicely over your shoulders for that really dramatic effect. 




Skeleton Harness by Cactus Lady Creation, see the pattern here.

Another great make is the Skeleton Harness also by me. This one is a nice blend of spooky and stylish, and is rated intermediate because it does require a bit of sewing the pieces together to assemble. There are sizes XS to 5XL and a lot of tips to adjust the fit as you like, and this one is a free YouTube video on my channel and a paid written pattern over on my website. 

 


Graveyard Duster by Eerie Knots, see the pattern here

I also like the graveyard duster by Eerie Knots. This one is nice because it’s a lightweight sweater which is great for Spring and Fall, and it’s beginner friendly because it only uses basic stitches. This one is one size, and is a paid pattern in their Etsy, and I love how it has that cryptcore aesthetic vibe that I’ve been seeing recently which is really cool and would be fun to style. 

 


Lisette Sweater Shawl by Carolyn C, see the pattern here

Or make the Lisette Sweater Shawl by Carolyn C. This is a really nice meshy shawl with a deep lacy, scalloped pineapple border. This one also seems to be one size and I love how it’s lacy and retro, great for balmy days and cool evenings. It’s intermediate level to make and is a paid pattern over on Love Crafts. 



Dance Creepy Skull Vest by Laurel K, see the pattern here

Another nice pattern is the bone Dance Creepy Skull Circle Vest by Spider Mambo. It’s a paid pattern on Love Crafts as well and the finished piece measures 43 inches in diameter and 9 inches wide in the back between armholes, and 16 inches length from shoulder to the longest point around. So it’s good to note this and that it’s one size. 



Grim Reaper Cardigan by Lakza, see the pattern here

I also like the Grim Reaper Cardigan by Lakza. There are sizes Small to 2XL, and it’s a paid pattern on their Etsy. The stitches required are the single crochet (sc), single crochet in the back loop only (scblo), single crochet 2 together (sc2tog), and the chain stitch (ch). This one would take a while to make but I think it’s definitely worth it and is quite unique. 


Dark Princess Skirt by Red and the Wolf Designs, see the pattern here

Lastly is the Dark Princess Skirt by Red and the Wolf Designs. This one is made to measure so you can adjust the fit as you like, and it’s a paid pattern in their Ravelry. You can make it with lace weight or DK weight or a heavier weight yarn depending on the results that you want. I love how flirty this design is and how you can layer it when styling.
