5 Festive Crafts to Make and Sell This Holiday Season
You might think handmade is losing to big-box retail. The numbers actually say the opposite, but only for makers who follow where the money is moving. Here are five festive crafts to make and sell this Holiday Season, backed by the data.
And if you're a maker or a handmade seller trying to figure out what to make for the holiday season, picking products based on what you feel like making is the single biggest mistake you can make. Because what you love to make and what buyers are actually paying for? Those are not always the same thing. And I know this because I definitely used to do this.
So in this video, I'm going to share five handmade products you can make and sell this holiday season, and the real data behind why each one is positioned to sell in 2026. All right, let's get into it.
PRODUCT #1: Personalized Ornaments
Number one is personalized ornaments that would make great gifts. The reason this one works so well is that personalization is not a trend anymore, it's the whole market.
According to Business Research Insights, the global personalized gifts market is estimated at about $34 billion in 2026, and it's expected to nearly double to over $61 billion by 2035.
And Technavio says this market is going to add over $13 billion in value between 2026 and 2030, growing at nearly 7% a year. So the takeaway here is, a plain ornament is a nice-to-make. But an ornament with a name, a date, a monogram, or a custom message on it? That's what buyers are searching for.
If you crochet, think mini crochet ornaments with the family name stitched on. Or if you are a woodworker or a potter maybe it’s an ornament that’s engraved with a date to celebrate like a wedding or baby’s first Christmas. It doesn't have to be that complicated either, it just has to feel custom. Because buyers, especially this year, want pieces that feel personal and one-of-a-kind.
PRODUCT #2: Aromatherapy Candles & Home Fragrance
Coming in at number two is aromatherapy candles and home fragrance.
According to Grand View Research, the candle market was valued at about $14.8 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow to over $15.6 billion in 2026, at around 7% a year.
The main reason this works so well for makers is the margins are extremely high, a candle that costs you a few dollars in wax and fragrance can sell for twenty to thirty dollars, especially when it's wrapped as a gift.
And here's where you can stand out: pair it with something handmade. A crocheted diffuser sleeve, or c rystals in the aromatherapy candle, a massage oil candle, or a little personalized label. That kind of offering can turn a basic candle into a signature product that is liftable.
PRODUCT #3: DIY Craft Kits
Number three is DIY Craft Kits. And for a maker audience, this one might be the smartest product on this list, because instead of selling one finished piece to one buyer, you're selling your process over and over again. Here's the data behind why this is working.
According to Business Research Insights, the craft kits and projects market is worth roughly $4.38 billion in 2026, and it's projected to grow to over $8.3 billion by 2035. Knitting and crochet kits are one of the single biggest segments, making up around 22% of the market.
The main reason this works so well right now is that buyers aren't just buying a physical piece anymore, they want to purchase an experience. People are leaning into screen-free, stress-relieving hobbies, and a kit that teaches them to make something with their own hands is the gift that keeps giving.
It's not a product that sits on a shelf, it's an afternoon or even days and days of creating. A kit is just your expertise, packaged. So instead of buying a generic craft kit from a big-box store, people want a kit that feels designed by a real artist, your pattern, your color choices and material choices, and your little tips that you’ve learned from your experience tucked inside.
If you crochet, a "learn-to-crochet ornament" kit is perfect, If you do macramé, a mini wall-hanging kit. And the craft fair creation box by Karen is also perfect for this as well. The key is to keep the finished project small enough that a beginner can finish something in one sitting, because that's the moment they tag you, leave a five-star review, and then buy the next kit.
PRODUCT #4: Sustainable & Upcycled Home Decor
Number four is sustainable and upcycled home decor. Now, this is where the data gets really encouraging for fiber artists.
According to Research and Markets, the sustainable products market is valued at over $480 billion in 2026 and is projected to grow at a 10.6% rate over the next several years. That's faster than the overall gift market by a wide margin.
And home decor overall is massive, Fortune Business Insights puts it at over $862 billion in 2026. If you're doing macramé wall hangings, fiber art, or upcycled decor, make sure to lead with that. "Upcycled," "zero-waste," "natural fiber", those words are the reason someone chooses your piece over a mass-produced one. This is a category where your values genuinely become your marketing.
PRODUCT #5: Cozy Crochet & Knit Winter Wearables
Number five is cozy winter wearables — beanies, scarves, mittens, ear warmers. According to Salsify's 2026 holiday spending predictions, more than half of shoppers , about 51%, say they plan to spend about the same as they did last year. They're not pulling back, but they are being more intentional. And an intentional shopper reaches for the gift that's practical and handmade, and something they'll actually use all winter.
There's one more reason this works, and it's the social commerce angle. According to Drug Store News, 19% of consumers now say they're likely to buy directly through social media in 2026, up from 11% last year. And a cozy beanie or scarf is extremely content-friendly.
It films beautifully, it's easy to show on a person, and that makes it a natural fit for the kind of short-form content that drives those social sales. So if you're making wearables, you've also got built-in marketing content.
So overall, we can see that holiday 2026 is not about competing with big-box retail on price. It's all about personalization, sustainability, it's about cozy handmade pieces that feel meaningful.
And the data backs every single one of these five products. I'll drop links to every source I mention over on the blog including all of the market reports and trend studies, so you can dig into this research yourself.
Now, let me know in the comments below, which of these five are you most excited to make for the holidays? I read every single one, and I'd genuinely love to know what you're planning for your shop this season.
