Whimsigoth Crochet Patterns

Whimsigoth Crochet Patterns

There's this aesthetic that combines elements and textures like moonlight, velvet, celestial prints, hard and soft fabrics like leather and lace, and a jewel tone palette, along with a bit of 90s nostalgia all mixed together, and it is called whimsigoth, and that’s the aesthetic that all of these patterns will be inspired by today.

I found 30 whimsigoth-inspired designs across tops, bottoms, dresses, accessories, and home decor. Some are free, some are paid, and you can check out the exact links to each of these patterns over on my blog, which is linked in the description box below. Alright let’s get started.

Tops:

Cosmic Cardigan by Örgü Mü Ded'n'z, see the pattern here

First is the cosmic cardigan by Örgü Mü Ded'n'z. This one is more intermediate level to make and is a free video tutorial on their Youtube channel. The cardigan is constructed from individual granny squares, each featuring a celestial motif, which are then joined to create a relaxed, open-front cardigan with a comfortable, slightly oversized fit. It’s good to keep in mind that this pattern is in Turkish, but you can definitely translate it on YouTube through the captions, but it’s better if you’re a visual learner with this one.  The motifs are visually striking but repetitive enough that once you’ve made one or two, it’s definitely easier to grasp and quickly create. This pattern feels very approachable, great for cooler Summer nights, is definitely a showstopper, and it definitely has a 90s nostalgia to it.

Selene Top by MJ's off the Hook Designs, see the pattern here

Next is the Selene Top by MJ’s off the Hook Designs. This one has a shell stitch design with top-down, worked in the round construction, and has a wearable fit that is perfect for the warmer months. It is intermediate level to make and is sizes XS to 5XL It has a breezy shell stitch texture with a relaxed fit, and can be styled and worn for beach days, and is great for layering and wearing everyday. I thought the lacy design really gives it that whimsigoth feel. It’s also made to have 3 inches to 8.5 inches of positive ease, so it’s very relaxed, and it’s a free pattern on her blog.

Star Top by Kristine, see the pattern here.

Another great make is crochet Star Top by Kristine. This one is beginner friendly, and is perfect for warmer weather with Summer around the corner at the time of this video. This one is made in the round to make the star, and then a few rows are added on the sides to create straps and then straps are added at the top to tie around your neck. This one is a free video tutorial on their channel, and I really like how this design has sides to it so you feel nice and supported on the sides, and you can make it as long as you like and adjust to your size to fit you.

Shooting Star Top by Stacy Pamela, see the pattern here

Next is the Shooting Star Top by Stacy Pamela. This pattern is more intermediate level to create and is made to fit adult size medium with a B/C size cup, so you would need to adjust for other sizes. This one is free on their ravelry, and is worked by the row back and forth then you sew the star onto the straight flat edge and sew down every other stitch along the star’s edge and add straps to finish it off. And this would be really cool in that jewel tone palette to really embrace the whimsigoth aesthetic.

Half Moon Top by ABoC Studio, see the pattern here

I also love the half moon top by ABoC Studio. This one is a free pattern over on their YouTube channel. It’s beginner friendly and there are sizes to fit cup A to D. To create it you start with the cup and then work the top edge and bridge, then do the wings and bands and finish it off with the straps. The thing I love about this is that there are a lot of different notes along each step of the way to adjust the sizing and customizing it at each step to fit you. And you can also use whichever size of yarn that you like from fine to bulky weight, so this would be a great project to make with scrap yarns.

Mandala Sun Top by Isabela Firlova, see the pattern here

The next pattern is the Mandala Sun Top by Isabela Firlova. This one is a paid pattern on their Ravelry, and there are sizes Small, Medium and Large. The special stitch used here is the V-stitch, and there are sizes XS to 2XL, there are two panels to create it, and you can also make it into a dress, which is worked in the round. Fringe Lace Halter by Earth Tricks, see the pattern here

Next is the lace high necked Fringe Halter by Earth Tricks. To create it you start with the cups, then work the neckline and side panels and the bottom lace. And lastly you add the fringe, which I love how it gives it that nice texture. There are cup sizes A to DD, and it’s free on their Ravelry.
