35 Art Nouveau Crochet Patterns to Make

35 Art Nouveau Crochet Patterns to Make

So recently I’ve had a couple of requests to share some crochet patterns in this style, and this is one of my favorite design styles so I had to create a crochet pattern round-up for you all.

Art Nouveau  or “new art, emerged in the 1880s and bloomed right up to World War 1. It was a direct response to the rigid, industrial styles of the 19th century. The movement was heavily inspired by nature, and designers looked to motifs like flowers, vines, and even sea creatures for inspiration. A major influence was German biologist Ernst Haeckel, whose botanical drawings in the book Art Forms in Nature showcased stunning, swirling illustrations of deep-sea life that looked more like fantasy than science.

Other major influences included the Arts and Crafts and Aesthetic movements in England — with artists like William Morris calling for a return to handcraftsmanship and beauty for beauty’s sake. Across Europe and the U.S., Art Nouveau took root in architecture, fashion, furniture, stained glass, and illustration. Artists like Alphonse Mucha, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Gustav Klimt, and Victor Horta all helped define the style. And places like the Hôtel Tassel in Brussels or the Hill House in Scotland and even metro entrances in Paris all have this style.

So in this video, I’ve curated a list of 40 crochet patterns that are inspired by the art nouveau style, and I’ve separated them into three different categories: Home Decor, Accessories, and Clothing.

And as always, you can find all of the links to each of the patterns below. Alright let’s get started.

The piece is worked top-down, repeating the central motif four times vertically before finishing with a delicate scalloped edge, perfect for adding a soft, artistic touch to your window.
